Job scenario for aspiring Pilots in coming time
Aviation industry is growing worldwide, and India has an impressive growth rate in Aviation. More airports, increasing number of flights and passengers reflecting a continued growth post covid. Perfect choice of profession for those aspiring to be Piloting an aircraft.
Scenario
Presently, around 10,000 Pilots are working with Indian Air carriers. And there will be an incremental demand each year with fleet inflation. Industry projection says demand of estimated 1500-1600 new Pilots each year, the number can be even higher when we account for retirement of existing Pilots and considering General Aviation as well. Also, each year significant number of Indian Pilots join foreign carriers creating more vacancies for new ones. Therefore, the actual number of new pilots each year may range between 1500-2100. The number is unprecedented as Indian Aviation used to be a fraction of this previously.
With demand for Pilots, more and more students are opting for this exciting career opportunity. The number of aspirants to available vacancies ratio is changing rapidly. License holders are increasing at a higher rate than available positions, a classic case in Indian context. Although, the spurt growth has much to offer.
Near future
Based on demand and market situation, airline is hiring criteria meeting people. Although, there is not much scope for filtering based on holistically trained and groomed Pilot license holders. Although in coming time with rise in number of airline applicant’s quality has to be preferred versus time.
Airlines will keep hiring in batches according to their airplane acquisition plans and deliveries. There are gaps in between due to several factors internal to airlines. However, hiring trend will continue and increase with time.
Desired skills
There is no substitute for excellence. The principle applies in Aviation professionals as well. We strongly recommend Pilot aspirants to focus and enjoy every aspect of learning. Be it theoretical, field exposure or flight training.
Programs to become Airline Pilot
The most common and cost-effective program opted by students is enrolling for flight training and seek Commercial Pilot License (CPL). Thereafter, continue with Type training and become airline ready. Estimated cost range between Rs. 70-85 lacs based on location.
The other program opted is Cadet Pilot Programs managed by Airline. The program covers the similar stages. Whereas the process flow is approved by the airline. Estimated cost range may vary between Rs. 1.1 - 1.4 Cr.
